Photos from last night's Curator's Talk!!!
Boy, was last night a blast. Heyd Fontenot, Jonathan Walz, and Anne Goodyear had an awesome discussion about works in "The Very Queer Portraits of Heyd Fonetenot" AND lead an informative Q & A with the audience. Everyone left with a new understanding of what's really queer in Heyd's art. Big thanks to Heyd, Jonathan, and Anne AND everyone that came out to support!!! Enjoy the pics!

The Education Program Adventure Continues...
So guess where TAG staffer Jewell and TAG Intern Ashley went last Friday? Maya Angelou Public Charter School, of course! They visited the Evans campus in NE, D.C. and had a ton of fun. Ashley & Jewell presented the kids with a slide show, a project, and pizza! Take a peak at these shots that were taken, and be sure to contact TAG ASAP if you know of a school that would like to participate in our fun (and usually free) Education program @ 301-405-2763

The Art Gallery takes Maryland Day 2010 by Storm
I'm literally bursting at the seams to show off the pics that were taken on Sat. (April 24th) during UMD's Maryland Day 2010. T.A.G. teamed up with the English Department's Creative Writing Program to bring our visitors an MFA extravaganza. Our MFA exhibition was the perfect match for the Creative Writing's MFA candidates. Together, we presented the Maryland Day 2010 MFA Creative Writing Poetry and Fiction Reading at The Art Gallery. Lindsay Bernal, Natalie Corbin, David Green, Julia Leverone, Jacqueline Orlando, and Adam Pellegrini read to our audience while surrounded by the visual allure of our MFA exhibition. Wow, what a awesome experience! We fit together like PB & J, like shampoo and conditioner, and like well... art and poetry!
MFA Opening Reception a SMASHING SUCCESS!
So what do you get when you blend 5 emerging (and amazing!) artists, free food and drinks, and The Art Gallery on a Friday Night? One great shindig, that's what. These pics were taken last Friday during the 2010 MFA Thesis Exhibition Opening Reception...and they only show a FRACTION of the crowd that showed up. Take a look and tell us what you think of the show at theartgallery@umd.edu. Big shoutout to Roots Market in Olney Md. for hooking T.A.G. up with some tasty and organic treats!

T. A. G. Goes Back to School
The latest stop in The Art Gallery's quest to spread arts education was Nicholas Orem Middle School in Hyattsville, Md. And what a stop it was! Our Education Intern Ashley J. presented Mr. Bell's 6th and 7th graders with a presentation and a make-your-own wallet or
pencil case project. The kids seemed to enjoy the project....especially the decorating! Check out the pics we were able to snap between the glue and glitter. Big thanks to the kids and to Mr. Bell!

We Never Had It So Bad....
So this posting was a bit delayed due to a record-setting snowstorm followed by yet another record-setting blizzard, but these pics are truly worth the wait. Not only do these pics show our current exhibition Adam Parker Smith: The Bad. The Bad. The Bad. off nicely, but they also demonstrate one of the awesome ways to see the show: With Your Classmates! We fun folks at The Art Gallery (yay us!) welcome ALL types and levels of schools and students to visit the gallery on a cool field trip. Everyone is also more than welcome to participate in our awesome educational program as well! If you're interested in hearing more on learning about art in fun and creative ways, give us a call @ 301.405.2763

Celebrate "The BAD" with us!
Ok, so these shots were taken during the instllation of our soon-to-open-in-less-than-two-and-a-half-hours exhibition, Adam Parker Smith: The Bad. The Bad. The Bad. We had a lot of fun installing this show, but these pictures here only begin to capture the truly awesome work of Adam Parker Smith. So you know what that means right?!?
YOU GOTTA COME TONIGHT TO TRULY SEE THE AWESOME WORK!
We'll be serving tasty food and drinks (on the house, duh...) to celebrate "The Bad"! Hope to see ya there!

Look at those happy faces!!!
Here are some shots our Director, John Shipman took during a gallery visit from the Maya Angelou Public Charter School on December 18, 2009 (The day before that HUGE blizzard). The kids dropped by for a gallery tour of our exhibition Unlimited Impressions, an awesome workshop where our Education Intern Ashley J. taught them a super cool (and super easy!) screen printing technique, and pizza (on us of course!). It was an all around cool day. The MAPCS crew had a great time and The Art Gallery staff had a blast.
Big thanks to the entire MAPCS gang (esp. their sweet art teacher, Ms. Bell!)
